Contact Database Upgraded

We have completed the upgrade of our database software (phpList) to the latest version. This was necessary to implement some important security upgrades. With an IT staff of one, the upgrade was performed in stages over a two-month period, so you may have experienced some problems (or encountered some weird error messages)  when registering, logging in, requesting a password, updating your profile, or conducting queries during the transition.

As with any software upgrade, there likely remain some glitches. Some minor ones we know about and are still working on. If you encounter any database issues, please fire off an email to admin@vpreunion.com and we’ll address them. Some folks have already alerted us of one, and to them we are grateful.

Monterey Planning Underway

The committee in San Diego put on a fabulous reunion last November. The flight jacket reception on Friday night was a visual history lesson. Over 220 people attended the Saturday evening banquet. Click here to see the photos.

A few alumni from VP-46 spent the better part of a year searching out former shipmates and had the largest contingent there. I challenge/suggest that folks from all the other squadrons do the same. Find that copilot you lost track of years ago. Believe me, it will be worth the effort.

There was lots of talk about not letting the euphoria of the weekend die in San Diego. So the Northern California Committee has reserved September 23/24, 2016 at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA for the next VP Officer Reunion.

Please pass the word!

If you get just one person to attend that otherwise didn’t know of the evert, it will be a success. Have a mini-squadron reunion within the larger reunion.

Get into the VPREUNION database to receive all future notices.

Look for the Contact List Login on the right sidebar of this page and enter your email address and a password. If you forgot your password, request it.

If you are a new subscriber, select Subscribe.

You will be sent an email to confirm you are you and once you respond, you will be in the database. You can see contact information on most folks in the database.

As you can see from the photos, everyone had a great time at the 2014 reunion. And nobody looked a day older!

This page will eventually contain more details for the upcoming reunion in Monterey, September 23/24, 2016. Both events will be at the NPGS. Billeting there will be limited, so I will put together a list of motels for your selection in the future. Also, there is a Navy Lodge close by.

Thanks,

Tom Spink
Chairman, Northern California Committee

After Action HOWGOZIT

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We hope your return trip home or elsewhere to be with your loved ones on Thanksgiving was a pleasant one.

It’s just been a few days since the 2014 “last” West Coast VP Officer Reunion has come and gone, and your San Diego Committee just wants to say “thanks” to all who attended and who made the event a complete success. We really appreciate the many BZs we’ve received—they mean a lot. Our greatest thanks, however, is in the warm atmosphere enjoyed at each of the functions and in the fact that over 230 of you devoted the time and expense to come to San Diego to see one another.

We’re happy that the weather was spectacular and the hotel and golf course outdid themselves to provide a memorable weekend. For those of you from the northern tier of states, we’re happy we could give you a three-day respite from the elements.

We welcome your continuing comments and suggestions. The response Saturday evening made it clear that there is a groundswell of support for another reunion in the next few years. If the consensus is that San Diego should be the venue, we will strongly consider hosting it. If another venue is preferred, the San Diego contingent will be there.

For those of you who couldn’t join us, you missed a good one. You may rest assured, however, that you were thought of and missed. You were also probably the subject of more than one sea story.

We wish you a happy, safe, holiday season and urge you to keep in touch. The reunion database will remain up and operating and can serve as a great reference to maintain contact with your VP buddies.

We have already posted some reunion photos for you to peruse and enjoy.

Fair winds and following seas, everyone.

Your San Diego Reunion Committee

October HOWGOZIT

Wow!  One month to go! Everything is still on track. We want to see you in San Diego! More than 185 people have already signed up and more plan to come. We are excited and grateful for the strong turnout. As we’ve previously noted, a large percentage of those registered so far are from outside of California. Also, many attendees are new to the reunion, or have not attended in recent years. Once again, if you want to see which of your buddies are coming, you can log in to the site, click on Database, then click on Reserved to see who is a confirmed attendee. (You must be a subscribed member of the Contact List in order to see this information.)

A quick reminder, —for those of you who are paying by check, please make the check out to Tim Verhoef, not the VP Reunion. The bank doesn’t recognize the VP Reunion title.  Thanks!

We still have a FAQ page on the site to provide answers to questions that the Committee receives.

We‘ve tried to give visitors for the 2014 Reunion information about San Diego that might be useful.  We want you to enjoy our city to the fullest while you’re here. A reminder, our welcome packet will not include San Diego activities this year, since we’ve been providing them in each HOWGOZIT, so please download the info from the HOWGOZIT before you arrive.

FYI—the check-in point for the Reunion will be in the Hospitality Suite. Directions to the Suite will be available at the hotel front desk. It will be manned starting at 1200 on Friday so if you need to wash down the trail dust, we can make it happen!

A reminder—please bring those vintage flight jackets for the Friday evening reception.

As we’ve mentioned before, the evening of the Welcome Reception, we will have a seating chart available for you to select your table for the banquet the following night. So plan ahead in order to assemble the group you’d like to join.

We are finalizing a special guest speaker who will give us an update on the P-8 Poseidon program—should be very informative.

The list of golfers is now at 32 and growing and we look forward to a fun tournament at the Admiral Baker Golf Course.

In response to a number of questions, the Reunion web site will stay up after the reunion, so you’ll be able to retrieve information well into the future.

This will be the last HOWGOZIT prior to the reunion, so please send any questions to the FAQ portion of the website.

This is going to be a GREAT reunion!

All the best,
Your Reunion Committee

September HOWGOZIT

Hi everyone!

The countdown continues—only two months till the Reunion, and everything is still on track. We want to see you in San Diego! More than 120 people have already signed up (well ahead of 2010) and many more plan to come. We really believe this “last blast” will be the best ever! We are still pleased with the fact that a large percentage of those registered so far are from outside of California. Also, many attendees are new to the reunion, or have not attended in recent years. As we previously pointed out, if you want to see which of your buddies are coming, you can log in to the site, click on Database, then click on Reserved to see who is a confirmed attendee. (You must be a subscribed member of the Contact List in order to see this information.)

We’ve tried to give visitors for the 2014 Reunion information about San Diego that might be useful.  However there may some things we’ve missed.  We want you to enjoy our city to the fullest while you’re here. FYI—your welcome packet will not include San Diego activities this year, since we’ve been providing them in each HOWGOZIT, plus we’ve created a Tell Me About…. page for you on the website to ask your questions if you have any.  The answer to your question may be just the information someone else may find useful as well.  Follow the instruction at Tell Me About…. to ask your questions and Ron Kissmann will reply.  You’ll have to return to Tell Me About…. to get the answer, but that’s ok; we don’t want anyone to miss out on Things To Do in San Diego.

A reminder—please bring those vintage flight jackets for the Friday evening reception.

As we’ve mentioned before, the evening of the Welcome Reception, we will have a seating chart available for you to select your table for the banquet the following night. So plan ahead in order to assemble the group you’d like to join.

We’ll provide new updates in the October HOWGOZIT. If you have questions, just ask.

This is going to be a GREAT reunion!

All the best,

Your Reunion Committee
